About
Our Voices Together is a participatory arts and contemporary heritage project about migration in Donegal — the journeys, stories, skills and cultures of those who have returned home, and the new communities who have made Donegal theirs. Spanning the five municipal districts, the project brings people together to share experiences, connect across cultures, and create a new archive.
The project is led by community engagement organisation Workhouse Union in collaboration with Amicitia, with the support of Donegal County Museum and County Archives. It is funded through PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB), in partnership with Donegal County Council and LCDC.
Why we’re doing this
Donegal has a rich archive of migration stories from the past. What is missing is a living, contemporary record — one that reflects the multicultural communities that call Donegal home today. Our Voices Together exists to create that record, in partnership with Donegal County Museum and County Archives.
Migration is a shared human experience that connects cultures rather than divides them. Food, music, craft, and storytelling all travel across borders.
Who we’d like to hear from
Every culture carries knowledge and practices passed down through generations: ways of cooking, crafting, singing, growing, and storytelling. These living traditions are one of the most powerful things people bring with them when they move, and one of the richest things that can be shared across cultures. We would particularly love to connect with:
- People who have settled in Donegal from elsewhere, recently or over time.
- Returned emigrants.
- Anyone with a story of migration, journeys, or belonging.
- People who carry something from their culture or family: a skill, a recipe, a song, a tradition.

What we’re working towards
The programme runs throughout 2026, with creative engagement workshops across the county. A selection of participants will also have the opportunity to contribute an oral history recording, focusing on shared experiences, diverse cultures, individual migration stories, and heritage.
The recordings, and the creative work that emerges from the participatory process, will form part of a new contemporary archive at Donegal County Museum — a living, multicultural record of Donegal today. The work will also form part of a touring exhibition that will travel across the county, built from the voices, stories, and creativity of everyone who took part.
Across the five districts
The project runs across all five municipal districts of County Donegal.
